Dakota Burl® composite is a unique bio-based material, which exhibits the beauty and elegance of traditional burled woods. The material is created from an agricultural fiber and sunflower hulls, making this a beautiful environmental option to hardwood.

Dakota Burl® can be used naturally or stained with conventional wood stains to achieve a wide range of distinctive colors. Stained or natural, Dakota Burl® offers a beautiful, visually textured alternative to traditional wood.

The demand for environmentally friendly alternatives in today’s marketplace, is a growing trend in America, and throughout the world. The unique manufacturing process of Dakota Burl, does not destroy trees; it utilizes recycled materials and abundant renewable agricultural resources.

The innovative bio-engineered process, manufactures rigid, thermo-set panels, in which durability exceeds that of wood and wood composite boards. All EBM materials are tested using ASTM D1037-93 Standard Test Methods for Evaluating Properties of Wood based Fiber and Particle Panel Systems.

Carbon Footprint:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed a software program known as BEES®. According to the NIST website, "BEES® measures the environmental performance of building products by using the life-cycle assessment. All stages in the life of a product are analyzed: raw material acquisition, manufacture, transportation, installation, use, and recycling and waste management." The environmental impact of a product is calculated and weighted to determine a products Environmental Performance score, the lower the score the better. Of the 230 building products used in the most recent version, our wheat panel was the only one to receive a negative score!

Dakota Burl® is a decorative material, which exhibits the beauty and elegance of traditional burled woods. Dakota Burl ® is created from an abundant agricultural fiber, rapidly renewable resource, intended for non-structural, interior applications. The material is available in 4 foot by 8 foot sheets in various thicknesses. Dakota Burl® can be stained with conventional wood stains to achieve a wide variety of distinctive colors. When matching Dakota Burl to Dakota Burl®, inspect pattern prior to joining. Dakota Burl® is a random pattern product, which gives the material its distinct look.
