Gary started in the industry in his late teens and worked for Fyfe Smith Hardwoods, a company which had its beginnings on the West Coast of Canada importing hardwood lumber from the early 1900's.

Gary began his career in the warehouse and progressively worked in all elements of distribution including the order desk, outside sales, and eventually into leadership and management.

Along the way, Gary was given the opportunity to be the hardwood buyer for the company and travelled extensively to mills in the Eastern United States and Canada. This provided Gary with a heartfelt respect for the forests and the people who work in the industry.

Company History

In 1978, Gary started McKillican Hardwood Limited and carried on the distribution of hardwood lumber and plywood.

In 1980, the company began its partnership with Wilsonart Laminate and soon expanded across Western Canada. Hardware was added with acquisition of Available Hardware Company in 1992. With the wider complete bundle of products needed by its customers, the company changed its name to McKillican American Inc. in the USA and McKillican Canadian Inc. in Canada to reflect "The Complete Source" product offering.

Over the next 3 decades McKillican expanded steadily from Texas to Hawaii and today has 24 distribution branches in the United States and Canada.
